BRIGHTWELLS GOSTREY CENTRE – RE-DEVELOPMENT OF THE EAST STREET AREA
The Community Overview and Scrutiny Committee re-visited this matter in the light of a proposal from the Chief Officers’ Group that the Committee should withdraw its earlier recommendation and that it re-affirms the Council’s policy position that the Brightwells Gostrey Centre be provided with premises on a like-for-like basis, either in a new build development on South Street or in a refurbished building on the existing site.
However, the Committee, after lengthy debate, could not agree and wished to convey to the Executive that it re-affirms its previous decision, reinforced as follows:
1. that the Brightwells Gostrey Centre be provided with a new build development on or near its existing site, having regard to the reasonable needs of the Brightwells Gostrey Committee; and
2. that the officers be requested to undertake a feasibility study, draw up plans and make a financial appraisal for the provision of a new day centre.
