Age of Vehicle Policy
AGE OF VEHICLE POLICY
Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Vehicle (proprietor’s) licence:
1. Any new application for a vehicle licence, or any application for a transfer of a licence to a different vehicle will only be considered if the vehicle is less than three years old from the date of manufacture. The vehicle may then be re-licensed on a continuing basis until it is 8 years from the date of its manufacture for a non-purpose built vehicle and 10 years from date of manufacture for a purpose built vehicle or a disabled/wheelchair accessible vehicle. From 1st September 2009 the maximum re-licensing age will be reduced to 7 years for new vehicles.
2. Any hackney carriage/private hire vehicle in respect of which a Waverley Borough Council licence is in force on 31st August 2007 will not be required to comply with this vehicle age policy until its licence renewal date when it reaches 10 years from date of manufacture, always provided that it is fit for the purpose for which it is licensed.
3. With effect from 1st March 2008, when a vehicle reaches 5 years old it will be required to take an interim vehicle test at six months after each renewal, in addition to the annual inspection. The fee for this will be set at the same for the licence transfer fee (currently £62 in 2007/08) with the issue of a six-month duration plate and licence.
4. Subject to adoption by the Council, this policy shall come into force as from 1st September 2007.
