Wharf Depot
1. Following the conclusion of negotiations with the developer relating to the Section 106 Legal Agreement, the planning permission for the Wharf Depot Site was released in September 2003. The developer subsequently carried out further ground condition surveys and demolition commenced recently. The temporary replacement car parking facility for Council staff has been created and brought into use on the site of the former Godalming Ford Garage.
Remainder of Key Site
2. Officers understand that the developer has been in discussion with other landowners on the remainder of the key site. Officers recognise that these are likely to be complex negotiations. Further reports will follow when firm proposals emerge from the developer.
Affordable Housing
3. The Section 106 Legal Agreement, referred to above, includes a requirement to provide for affordable housing, either on the site, or elsewhere in the town. Officers can confirm that the developer is in active discussion with officers from the housing service.
Local Health Facilities
4. Local members on both the Borough and Town Councils have expressed their interest in the past about the potential for locating health facilities on the key site. However, this has never been a formal requirement of the Borough Council.
5. In the meantime, planning permission has been granted for a new healthcare and pharmacy on a site adjoining the Sainsbury's Supermarket. Officers understand that discussions are taking place between "The Square" GP practice and the Guildford and Waverley Primary Care Trust over the services that could be delivered from this site.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the report be noted.
