Summary and Purpose

This report seeks authorisation from the Executive Committee for the preparation and tendering of works of structural repair where the cost of the scheme is likely to exceed 35,000 in value.

The resource implications are detailed in this report and will be met from within the Housing Revenue Account 2001/02 budget estimates.
________________________________________________________________________

Introduction

1. Throughout the housing stock there are a significant number of properties which require structural repairs. The range and extent of work to each individual property varies considerably depending upon its condition. However, the need to rectify these defects is inescapable. This was recognised within the current Housing Revenue Account (HRA) Business Plan, and accordingly funds were made available in this year’s budget for this purpose.

2. Much of this work is routine. However, where works exceed 35,000, Standing Orders (Contracts) require that specific Committee approval is obtained.

3. (Exempt) Annexe 1 lists the works within the housing stock which currently have been identified as requiring approval.

Resource Implications

4. These works are to be carried out within the current programme and budget identified for structural repairs, and the cost will be met from within the approved Housing Revenue Repairs and Maintenance budget for 2000/01.

Recommendation

It is recommended that:-

1. approval be given to carry out the structural repair work identified in (Exempt) Annexe 1; and

2. the cost of the work be met from within the approved HRA Revenue Repairs and Maintenance budget for 2000/01.
